The pari-mutuel system was developed in 1867 and has primarily been used in horse racing, greyhound racing and jai alai. The system is synonymous with a peer-to-peer platform and is applicable to sport events in which participants finish in a ranked order. Additionally, it is a pooled system that forms an even playing field where participants create the odds based on the amount of liquidity in each pool.
