While the first F1 race dates back to 1950, it was not until 1981 that the series was officially recognized as the FIA Formula One World Championship. The technology and unique builds of cars have evolved significantly over the years and today fans see cars running on one of the four following engines depending on the team: Ferrari, Honda, Mercedes or Renault.
